The writer hid up under the
scrub along the banks of the
dam with the Spika camouflaged
gear helping to blend in well.
The writer nailed a lone grey
duck once the wind picked up
and more ducks flew overhead.
SETTING UP
Walking down the hill into the
basin with all the decoys and I
counted about 30 mallards, a few
spoonies and a dozen protected
teal which soon all got off and
flew away. This at least looked
promising for the next day.
I set up the decoys on the northern
side of the dam and then built my
maimai on the southern position,
directly across from the decoys.
This worked well the previous
year, but the lake then was a lot
smaller, and the birds came in
closer to where we were hidden.
