A long length of mono in the 
water when game fishing also 
produces more drag and helps 
tire fish out. The only other 
advantage of mono is its elastic 
nature which can help reduce 
hooks being pulled. When mono 
wears it can be a bit easier to see 
or feel the damage and replace it 
instead of it going unnoticed and 
snapping on a good fish. On a trip 
to the Three Kings, I remember 
we hooked a king on a trolling set 
up (filled with mono). I started to 
notice hi-vis shavings of mono
