I recently caught up with 
Beaver at Anglers Lodge in the 
Coromandel which is a region 
he visits often to fish in his 
boat with friends and family.
WAIUKU BOY
Going back in time to before all 
the World Cup glory and talking 
about Stephen’s roots, he advised 
that he grew up playing rugby in 
Waiuku and enjoyed fishing with 
his family out on the west coast.
Beaver commented, “I can 
remember heading down the beach 
out west from Waiuku with dad 
and taking the left-over sausages 
from the barbie the night before.”
“We would eat them while 
surfcasting off the beach and I just 
learnt to love what fishing offered, 
time away from things, getting 
outside in nature and catching 
a feed of fish for the family.”
“I have always loved getting 
out on the water and now that 
I have my own boat, we use it 
as much as we can with the kids 
and mates coming along.”
FAVOURITE RIGS
Beaver loves to bait fish for snapper 
which is a favourite fillet for frying 
in the pan and popular with the 
family.  Time is always precious 
and so he uses the Snapper Snacks 
often that have become a favourite 
on the boat due to their ease of 
rigging and good catch rates.
Beaver typically bait fishes using 
Black Magic Snapper Snacks or 
two-hook strayline rigs which 
save time and catch fish.
