Not long after this fish and we had
another boat turn up and anchor
just 30-40m away and then a jet ski
angler also appeared to cast around
our rock. This of course affected
the fishing, and we struggled to
hook anymore snapper with a few
kahawai landed then released.
I just don’t get some fishos and
their lack of etiquette, I would never
fish near the only boat found on a
250-300m stretch of coast and keep
well clear if I arrived later in the day
like them. We had got out early to
the spot and the best fishing was
when we were quiet and not moving
around. Motors and hull noise will
put snapper off the bite; it’s why
kayak anglers catch a lot of big fish.
Anyway, we had enjoyed a good
morning session and the bait with
berley proved its worth. I think I
will revert to it occasionally, but
then stalking the shallows casting
softbaits is pretty satisfying too.
Another fish falls to the two-
hook Snapper Snack which
accounted for numerous fish on
the trip to the Coromandel.
The Recon impressed with
its anchor lock ability over
the 3 hour+ bait session.
