SOFTBAITING THE SHALLOWS
We soon arrived along the 
Colville Road to Port Jackson 
and headed in to look for fish 
from the 15m mark and into 
around 5-6m.  We could see 
plenty of promising sign hard on 
the bottom and good baitfish, 
so we selected different Crush 
City Jerk 5" softbaits to cast 
ahead of the slow drift.
On my first cast using the pink/
green Bombshell softbait, I had 
a nice 44cm snapper landed 
which was kept for dinner back 
at Anglers Lodge, where we 
were going to stay the night.  We 
caught several more pannies 
over the next couple of hours 
as we moved along the coast 
and fished different depths.  
We released several and kept 
a few for our dinner and only 
caught snapper, with none of 
the other regular species like 
kahawai or trevally turning up.
The bigger snapper were just not 
around today, and it was also odd 
how few birds we encountered 
over the miles travelled up the 
coast.  It was late afternoon 
when we headed back to the 
ramp to drive north, stopping off 
in Coromandel town for some 
supplies on the way to the lodge.
ANGLERS LODGE
For those who aren’t familiar with 
Anglers Lodge, it is a great spot 
located at Amodeo Bay just north 
Drifting the coastline and casting Crush 
City sofbaits was working well.
