b'SURFCASTINGJay and Hamish went back to the gut to see if they could land another good snapper, while we moved to another spot further along from the lighthouse. There is a deep gut you need to wade through in waist deep water and then cast from the sand bank out into the deeper channel running along the beach. On my first cast and I was hit within two minutes, but it didnt stick.Shawn soon landed a snapper and then Brian was into another pannie too.The Sunday bite time was looking good this morning as the tide was still running out with low after 2pm.On my second cast with another fresh trevally bait and it was bit hard, the fish ran and got me over the deeper edge of the channel. It took some coaxing, but I managed to lift the fish and breakout sinker over the ledge and soon the hefty fish came into the beach. It wasMatt had a good run of fish on Sunday fat and went 49cm and over the nextwith this fat 49cm snapper taken on the couple of hours and we landed a dozenKilwell Powerplay on fresh trevally bait.snapper between our party of four anglers, with a few kahawai amongst the mix. Overcast conditions on Sunday The bite went quiet right on slackproduced better fishing, as Brian Snooks discovered scoring this water, and we were all standing aroundprime 61cm snapper.looking at our rods in the holders for over twenty minutes and I mumbled often the biggest fish will hit on slack and Brians rod was hit hard.He was on a good fish as the rod gave away those classic nods of a snapper and his Tica screamed line.Several minutes later and the best snapper of the day was landed and measured at 61cm.That was the only action for some time and Tubba and Shawn soon packed up and headed back up the beach at 3pm while Brian and I fished on till after 4pm to fish the incoming, but only landed kahawai which we released. The sun was out now, and my gut feeling is the snapper liked the outgoing tide and overcast conditions better. We soon packed up and drove back up the beach to Baylys and said our goodbyes, as I called in to see mum and clean the ute and fish.I reflected on a good weekend of fishing and catching up with mates and thought about a line from a favourite Bob Seger song, Hed headed out west cause he felt a change would do him good.See some old friends, good for the soul.FIGZ16FISHING IN GODZONE NOV/DEC 2021'
