When you locate a workup,
remember don’t drive through middle
of the action. It’s best to hang back
and try to get in front of the workup
by quietly moving into position at
low speeds. You don’t want to put
off the diving birds and dolphins
to disturb their feeding activity.
We typically fish ahead of the
moving workup and drop down our
lures to the bottom to work back
up 15m, but often the best snapper
fishing can be well behind a workup
as they are slower moving and
collect the leftovers on the bottom.
The writer scored this 7.5kg fish
in spring 2025 when jigging
over deep-water sign on a
90gm slow pitch jig which was
released in good condition.
Longer slim styled jigs
are designed to get to
the bottom quick and
an excellent choice
when in workups.
Hunt for deeper sign near
the bottom to drop your jigs
over and drift through.
