b'Retrospect Noel Ossie wins the Rhys DaviesBack at the weigh in at 4pm and several shield again with his 5kg+snapper were weighed and mine went snapper and resigns the editorover 3kg and was looking good for first to another 2nd place spot. place, until Noel snuck up behind me with the crowd egging him on and I saw his big snapper.A very nice 5kg+ fish that secured him the shield for a record time.Well done Noel I commented, you sure know how to catch big snapper off the beach still.Noel replied in his understated way with no hint of ego Well Mathew, I was not enjoying any success all day and in the last hour of fishing after shifting spots I hooked a big ray and thought one last cast and bang, the snapper hit my last bait.Some guys have all the luck, but then good anglers increase their odds I reckon.FIGZThis sold 3kg+ fish caught on a slow day of fishing during the Glinks 2023 contest offered hope of another shield win.So, at 38 years old and many Glinks contests later, I had won the coveted shield.The following year the tables were turned as I came in second and Noel won it back!This year the contest was held on the 4th of January and is now run by Rhys Davies and his family.I was staying at Baylys Beach with my family where my mum now lives, and I took my son Beau down the beach early to fish the contest.It was a good sea with overcast conditions, and I was confident I would get amongst the fish, but it was strangely a slow day.Finally, after a couple of hours of moving and then fishing in a deep hole, a good fish hit my trevally bait hard andBeau waits as took line.After a nice fight, I had a soliddad weighs in the 3kg+ fish which gave me confidence ofsnapper which is taking the shield again due to how slowlooking good to take the fishing had been. first place.98FISHING IN GODZONE SUMMER ISSUE #48'
