B
raid is my go-to line on
all my fishing combos,
especially for lure fishing
such as softbaiting and
jigging. I have been a
converted fan to switching
to braid years ago, the benefits
are numerous as it is strong,
easier to cast and with no stretch
like mono, you feel the slightest
interest from fish. I even use braid
on my surfcasting reels as you
want the biggest cast available
to get your bait way out off the
beach and into deeper water.
Over the past 15+ years I have
tested and fished with a lot of
different braids on the market
and the best braids have been
the 8+ strands which give much
greater abrasion resistance
and will simply last longer.
One such quality braid is Black
Magic’s Hyperglide 13x casting braid
which has recently been updated
and is now available in 16lb, 20lb,
30lb, 50lb and 80lb rainbow colours
for saltwater fishing. While the
original blue Hyperglide 13x is best
suited for trout anglers and available
in 8lb, 10lb and 12lb line classes.
Hyperglide 13x is constructed
with 12 ultra-fine Japanese fibres
that are wrapped around a central
core and therefore gives the line
a round structure. This helps to
reduce water drag and resistance
through the rod guides when cast,
helping to give the angler better
distance. While the abrasion
resistant core helps reduce salt build
up within the braid and reel spool.
The rainbow-coloured braid
has 1m strike indicators with
5 x 10m colour changes.
