I recently caught up with Mike
in mid-winter on the water in
Tauranga, as we shot out for
a morning of softbaiting and
discussed how the show started
out. Mike is an experienced
hunting guide who has helped run
the popular hunting Sika Show
and with a love of the outdoors
and being on the water fishing
and diving, he and his wife Natalie
saw another opportunity in the
Waikato for a new marine show.
Their experience of running shows
helped to launch the Expo in
2024 and they had a clear idea
on what direction to take it.
Mike advised, “we wanted to
create an event that brings the
entire marine community together
while also helping promote and
support the industries that so
many Kiwis are passionate about.”
"We want the Expo to be
enjoyable, informative and
welcoming for everyone – from
first-time visitors and families
through to serious boating,
fishing and diving enthusiasts.
Equally important is ensuring
exhibitors receive value and
have an opportunity to connect
with thousands of enthusiastic
marine consumers."
Education and marine
stewardship remain key pillars
of the event. A range of New
Zealand organisations, clubs and
foundations will be involved, helping
promote responsible boating,
sustainable fishing practices, marine
conservation, and water safety.
The Expo also provides an
important opportunity for visitors to
learn from industry experts, discover
new technologies and connect
directly with manufacturers,
retailers, and marine professionals.
As the event continues to grow,
the focus remains firmly on
delivering a positive experience
for everyone involved.
With an unbeatable mix of boats,
fishing gear, dive equipment, marine
products, family entertainment,
educational displays, competitions,
and prizes, the 2026 NZ Boat,
Fish & Dive Expo is shaping up
to be a must-attend event on the
New Zealand marine calendar.
