b'The day ended with another Feature stunning west coast sunset.I collected a couple of new Powerplay 222 rods to take on the trip from client Kilwell. These legendary NZ made surf rods are the holy grail for many Kiwi surfcastersto own and it was going to be good to fish using them. After several minutes I retrievedSwitching to the Tica Kazumi Gold the bait to check it and then wadedMedal surfcaster in the afternoon back out through the surf to putand a large 62cm kahawai grabbed in a bigger cast with more energythe mackerel bait.behind it.The bait sailed out into the deeper water in the channel, and only a few minutes later I had a good strike from a fish.It didnt stick so wound in to rebait and recast. The third cast was even further out, it just looked good, and you just know it is in the zone to get a fish.Soon enough with a few solid taps on the line, I hooked a fish that I was positive was a snapper and a fat 35cm pannie was in the bin.I was happy to get several casts in alone with the sun setting, it was simply good to be on the west side standing in the surf and tomorrow it should be a good day as the plan was to be on the beach early.26FISHING IN GODZONE MAGAZINE'
