b'EARLY MAY TRIPFeature I was up staying at Baylys Beach on Ripiro Beach for a week from Anzac weekend in April and into early May for duck shooting. The weather forecast was looking decidedly nasty, with heavy rain and 60-kilometre winds coming from the northwest. This was on the back of a settled sea with easterly winds and a new moon, always the best period to fish on the west side.I made the quick decision to go down in the late afternoon with Brian Snooks to fish the low tide, which was at 6pm before the bad weather arrived.Heading down the beach from Baylys we arrived at Pouto to park below the lighthouse just before 4pm.Sea conditions were flat calm, with a murky coloured water after all the fresh water had come down the river into the harbour during the week.It was very overcast and Brian hooked up to a largewith a moody sky, the place seemed fish on his Tica surf rod that put on a good fight and tookvery fishy today and we were eager several minutes to land. to cast our fresh trevally baits.Parking the ute under the famous Pouto lighthouse and getting ready to fish the outgoing tide.34FISHING IN GODZONE MAGAZINE'
